New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced plans to introduce upgraded route patrolling vehicles (RPVs), branded as Rajmarg Saathi, to improve highway safety and emergency response. The move is part of a broader effort to enhance incident management and ensure smoother traffic flow on national highways.
Key highlights of the new Rajmarg Saathi RPVs include:
AI-Powered Dashboard Cameras: Equipped with video analytics to detect cracks, potholes, and other road issues, along with identifying vehicles, pedestrians, and road signs. The collected data will be integrated into the NHAI One application for better road maintenance.
Redesigned Rear Space: The new vehicles feature closed cabinets with shelves for storing emergency equipment, ensuring quick and organized access during incidents.
Enhanced Communication Tools: Advanced systems to minimize traffic disruptions and improve overall road safety.
Service Fitness Standards: RPVs will be replaced every three years or after running 300,000 kilometers to ensure efficiency and reliability.
Improved Visibility: Vehicles will feature distinct branding and reflective designs to enhance visibility on highways.
The new guidelines also include updates to the uniforms of patrol personnel, featuring reflective jackets with authority logos for better identification.
By introducing these advanced RPVs, NHAI aims to:
Strengthen highway patrolling and incident management operations.
Improve response times to emergencies.
Enhance the safety and travel experience for road users.
The initiative underscores NHAI’s commitment to adopting technology-driven solutions to ensure road safety and better management of national highway infrastructure. The rollout of Rajmarg Saathi RPVs reflects NHAI’s focus on modernizing infrastructure and prioritizing road safety. These upgrades aim to reduce accidents, improve response efficiency, and create safer travel experiences for commuters.
