Chennai, September 28 (APAC Media): Tata Communications and SASTRA Deemed University have launched a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics at SASTRA’s Thanjavur campus in Tamil Nadu.
The initiative aims to strengthen industry-academia collaboration in cybersecurity education and research.
The centre has been established through a joint investment of Rs. 3.5 crore. It will focus on research, capacity building, and developing specialised manpower to address different levels of digital and cybersecurity vulnerabilities.
Blend of Industry Expertise and Academic Research
The partnership brings together Tata Communications’ industry and network-security expertise with SASTRA’s academic research capabilities. The collaboration will support applied research, curriculum development, advanced cybersecurity infrastructure, and mentoring by Tata Communications experts.
Through this model, students and researchers will gain exposure to real-world security challenges beyond conventional classroom learning. At the same time, industry inputs will help shape skills and research areas aligned with evolving cybersecurity requirements.
Focus Expands to Digital Forensics
The new centre also expands SASTRA’s existing cybersecurity capabilities into digital forensics.
Digital forensics involves examining digital systems and evidence following cybersecurity incidents, supporting activities such as incident response, investigations, and security research.
SASTRA’s School of Computing already houses several technology-focused facilities, including a Tata Communications cybersecurity lab, as well as infrastructure for cloud computing, data science, and VLSI.
The new Centre of Excellence brings these capabilities together to support vulnerability analysis, cybersecurity research, digital investigations, and specialised skills development.
