New Delhi: Jio Platforms has partnered with AMD, Cisco, and Nokia to develop an Open Telecom AI Platform aimed at enhancing network automation and security. The announcement was made at Mobile World Congress 2025, with Jio set to be the first operator to deploy the AI-driven system.
AI Integration in Telecom Networks
The platform will integrate large language models (LLMs), small language models, and AI-driven analytics to optimize network operations. By analyzing network events, logs, and customer interactions, the system aims to improve efficiency, security, and real-time adaptability. This move is part of a broader push by telecom providers to incorporate AI for network automation and cost reduction. Mathew Oommen, Group CEO of Reliance Jio, stated that the collaboration would enable AI-driven autonomous networks that go beyond basic automation. The focus is on building self-optimizing networks that enhance user experiences and open new revenue streams for telecom operators.
Industry Collaboration for AI-Driven Networks
Cisco’s CEO Chuck Robbins noted that networking, compute, analytics, and AI security tools will be integrated into the platform. Nokia CEO Pekka Lundmark emphasized that the company’s expertise in core and radio networks will help telecom providers maximize AI’s potential for monetization and efficiency.
Jio’s Role in AI Adoption
Jio will serve as the initial test case, with the platform designed for easy replication by global operators. The initiative is expected to accelerate AI adoption in telecom, allowing for intelligent automation and analytics in enterprise and consumer applications. Since its launch, Jio has played a key role in India’s digital transformation, driving widespread adoption of 4G and 5G.
