New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of three senior officers to the post of Deputy Secretary in key ministries of the Central Government. IAS Harleen Kaur (2012 batch), belonging to the AGMUT cadre, has been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.Â
She was recommended for central deputation by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Known for her work in infrastructure and governance, Kaur is expected to contribute to national highway development and road safety initiatives.
Other appointments are as follows:
- IAS Johny Tom Varghese (2014 batch, Tamil Nadu cadre) – Appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Mines, Delhi. His experience in state governance and reforms is expected to help drive mineral policy, sustainable mining, and innovation in the sector.
- IPS Surendra Choudhary (2013 batch, AGMUT cadre) – Appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Delhi. With a background in policing and internal security, his role will support key policy and operational matters within the ministry.
The appointments will be valid for a period of four years or until further notice, whichever is earlier. This step is intended to strengthen administrative capabilities and boost policy implementation in key sectors like transport, internal security, and natural resource management.
