Shillong: Meghalaya has proceeded with the land acquisition process for the 166.80 km long high-speed corridor connecting Umiam Lake near Shillong to Silchar in Southern Assam.
The four-lane highway will begin at Mawlyngkhung near Shillong and end at Panchgram near Silchar. Out of the total stretch, 144.80 km lies in Meghalaya.
The Meghalaya government has identified seven villages for land acquisition. These are Pyllun, Umroi Labansaro, Nongrah, Nonglakhi, Wahmyntait and Lumsohpoh.
The total corridor will cost Rs 22,864 crore. Residents have been advised to avoid any new construction or development activity within the designated corridor alignment.
The expressway will pass through Ri-Bhoi district. It aims to transform regional connectivity, spurious economic development and reduce travel time between key northeastern hubs.
The project will be executed by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL).
