Ahmedabad, Apr 23 (APAC Media): Ahmedabad has introduced an AI-driven adaptive traffic control system at ten major junctions to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow across the city.Â
The initiative marks a step toward smarter urban mobility, using technology to tackle everyday commuting challenges.
The system relies on cameras and sensors installed at intersections to monitor real-time traffic conditions. It tracks vehicle density, speed, and lane usage, allowing signal timings to adjust automatically based on current demand. This dynamic approach replaces fixed signal cycles, which often fail to respond to sudden traffic changes.
Officials say the early results are promising. The new system has helped reduce waiting time at signals and improved overall traffic movement. Commuters are also experiencing shorter travel times, especially during peak hours. In addition, smoother traffic flow is contributing to lower fuel consumption, which could have a positive environmental impact over time.
The project is currently being tested as a pilot across selected high-traffic areas. Authorities are closely monitoring its performance to assess long-term benefits and operational efficiency. If the system continues to deliver positive results, there are plans to expand it to other parts of the city.
The move reflects Ahmedabad’s growing focus on adopting smart solutions to improve infrastructure and quality of life.
