Ranchi: To push forward Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s vision of sustainable urban development, the Urban Development Department of the Jharkhand government has launched a large-scale initiative aimed at transforming cities across the state.
The initiative focuses on strengthening urban infrastructure, improving public amenities, and planning future-ready cities.
Teams Formed to Assess Urban Infrastructure
Urban Development and Housing Minister Sudibya Kumar has instructed officials to take decisive steps toward modernizing urban areas. Acting on these directions, Principal Secretary Sunil Kumar has constituted eight teams comprising senior and expert engineers from the Urban Development Department, Road Construction Department, and Jamshedpur Utility Services Company (JUSCO) Limited.
These teams will travel to multiple cities in the state to conduct on-site assessments. Their primary task is to study the current infrastructure and identify gaps that need to be addressed for sustainable growth.
Focus on Roads, Traffic Flow, and City Modernization
According to Principal Secretary Kumar, the teams will inspect existing roads and evaluate the need for new road networks to support future expansion. They will also prepare reports on improving intersections and roundabouts to enhance traffic flow and city aesthetics.
The scope of work includes proposals for elevated roads, flyovers, road overbridges, road underbridges, footpaths, and strengthened road surfaces. These developments aim to ensure smooth mobility and reduce congestion in municipal areas.
Blueprint for Beautification and Environmental Care
In addition to infrastructure, the teams will work on beautification projects. A blueprint will be prepared for roadside greenery to improve visual appeal and promote environmental protection. The initiative aligns with the goal of creating cleaner and greener urban spaces.
Planning for Future Urban Expansion
Officials emphasized that strong infrastructure is the foundation of a developed city. To support long-term urban growth, the teams will plan bypasses and ring roads to ease traffic pressure on city centers. They will also explore additional infrastructure opportunities to enhance civic convenience and urban appeal.
The expert teams will submit detailed proposals outlining both current needs and future upgrades. These proposals will guide the state’s roadmap for urban development, ensuring that Jharkhand moves toward becoming one of the leading states in advanced urban planning and infrastructure under the Chief Minister’s vision.
The department aims to complete surveys and begin implementation in a phased manner, marking a significant step toward transforming Jharkhand’s urban landscape.
