Kolkata: Kolkata Metro plans to use AI in its operations across all its 5 routes.
Metro will soon implement AI-based software across entire Metro corridors in all the corridors.
This will help catch any suspicious activities or discrepancies happening in the platforms.
This includes movements with suspicious devices or attempted suicides. This will ensure better safety for Kolkata Metro.
Separately, the Blue Line will have an AI-enabled IP-based CCTV surveillance network operational by March 2026.
The upgrade includes the installation of 1678 high resolution cameras.
The outdated station level equipment will be replaced by a centralized monitoring system.
This will detect threats faster, generate real-time alerts and enhance passengers protection.
The AI system will instantly alert trained personnel if they detect unattended baggages, perimeter intrusions or abnormal crowd behaviour.
The new architecture, to be executed by Brihaspathi Technologies, will represent a shift from conventional surveillance to intelligence-driven security.
Crowd flow heat maps, peak hour congestion indicators and platform dwell time analytics will help them deploy staff better and tweak train schedules.
1625 cameras will be placed across Blue Line stations and 53 cameras across RPF posts.
The setup also includes Full HD and 4K UHD units backed by a 240nTB centralized storage system at the Metro Bhavan.
This data can be retained for 30 days with integrated facial recognition.
The overall project will cost Rs 25.34 crore.
