Mumbai, October 22 (APAC Media): India’s second Vande Bharat Sleeper train is expected to be launched on November 1, 2026, connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai and improving overnight rail travel between the two major cities.
The semi-high-speed train will offer modern amenities and improved passenger comfort. The service is expected to reduce journey time significantly, with the route passing through key cities in Karnataka and Maharashtra.
Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper: Route and Stops
The new Vande Bharat Sleeper Express will operate via Kalaburagi and connect Bengaluru with Mumbai through major railway stations, including Solapur, Pune, Kalyan, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).
According to railway officials, the train is expected to cover the journey in less than 20 hours. Currently, existing trains take approximately 22 to more than 24 hours to travel between the two cities. The new service aims to improve connectivity and provide passengers with a more comfortable overnight travel option.
The launch follows the introduction of India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train, operating between Howrah and Kamakhya (Guwahati), which was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2026.
16 Coaches and 823 Berths for Passenger Comfort
The Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper train will feature 16 fully air-conditioned coaches with a total passenger capacity of 823 berths. Its accommodation configuration will include:
- 3-Tier AC: 11 coaches with 611 berths
- 2-Tier AC: Four coaches with 188 berths
- First AC: One coach with 24 berths
The train will have ergonomically designed berths with improved cushioning, automatic doors, and vestibules to facilitate smooth movement between coaches. Enhanced suspension and noise-reduction technology are also expected to improve ride comfort.
Advanced Safety and Modern Technology
Designed for speeds of up to 180 kmph, the train will feature the Kavach automatic train protection system and an emergency talk-back facility. Other features include advanced driver-cab controls, improved sanitation through disinfectant technology, and automatic exterior passenger doors.
With upgraded facilities and a focus on faster overnight journeys, the Bengaluru-Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper is expected to strengthen intercity rail connectivity and offer passengers a modern alternative to existing services.
