New Delhi, Apr 15 (CXO Media): Palo Alto Networks has completed the acquisition of AI security firm Koi as enterprises face growing risks linked to autonomous AI tools.
Agentic AI Security Drives Acquisition Strategy
The acquisition reflects rising concerns over the security risks associated with agentic AI systems that operate with access to sensitive enterprise data and systems. Palo Alto Networks said Koi’s technology focuses on securing AI-driven coding agents and autonomous endpoint tools, an area gaining attention as businesses adopt AI-assisted workflows.
Tools such as AI coding assistants and autonomous software agents are increasingly used across development environments, expanding the number of endpoints and potential vulnerabilities. Security teams have flagged these tools as new attack surfaces, particularly because they can interact directly with internal systems and data without constant human oversight.
Integration With Existing Security Platforms
Palo Alto Networks plans to integrate Koi’s capabilities into its Prisma AIRS platform to extend visibility and security controls over AI-driven activities at the endpoint level. The company also intends to add a dedicated module within Cortex XDR to help identify and remediate risks across AI software ecosystems.
Koi’s tools will continue to be available as standalone offerings, enabling organizations to deploy them alongside existing endpoint detection and response (EDR) solutions. The move signals a broader shift among cybersecurity firms to adapt traditional endpoint security frameworks to address risks emerging from AI adoption.
Growing Focus on Enterprise AI Risk Management
The acquisition comes amid increasing enterprise investment in AI automation tools, including agent-based systems capable of executing tasks independently. As these systems gain deeper operational access, cybersecurity strategies are evolving to address governance, monitoring, and risk mitigation across AI environments.
