Predictive Maintenance to Improve Aircraft Performance
Predictive maintenance relies on technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), data analytics, sensors, and real-time monitoring systems. This delivers several operational advantages, including quicker repairs, lower maintenance expenditure, improved mission readiness, and enhanced safety standards.
IIT Bombay stated that the project would be based entirely on indigenous expertise and technology developed within India itself.
The Sukhoi Su-30 MKI remains one of the most critical assets in the Indian Air Force’s combat fleet. India currently operates more than 270 aircraft of this type.
Officials said the initiative aligns with the government’s “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” vision by strengthening indigenous defence technologies and reducing reliance on foreign systems.
IIT Bombay Highlights Indigenous Aerospace Innovation
IIT Bombay described the agreement as a significant technological advancement for India’s aerospace sector. The institute noted that the collaboration would focus on prognostic maintenance, prescriptive maintenance, predictive engineering systems, and data-driven aircraft servicing technologies.
Defence experts believe predictive maintenance systems could significantly improve both the operational lifespan and efficiency of fighter aircraft. The collaboration is also expected to contribute to future aerospace and fighter aircraft programmes in the country.
