Gangtok, May 05 (APAC Media): Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur, on May 3, announced that Sikkim has become the first state in India to implement a fully paperless judiciary system.
The governor made the remarks while attending the closing session of a two-day conference on technology and judicial education organised by the Sikkim High Court and the Sikkim Judicial Academy at Chintan Bhawan.
“This transition to a paperless court system is a significant step in judicial reforms and will further strengthen efforts to modernise the justice delivery mechanism while supporting the broader vision of digital governance,” Om Praskash said.
He noted that the introduction of e-filing systems and digital record management is expected to make judicial processes faster, more transparent, and easily accessible for citizens.
The governor said tools like artificial intelligence and digital management systems are becoming increasingly important in building a more accountable and citizen-focused judicial framework.
During the inaugural session of the conference, Justice Surya Kant hailed Sikkim for becoming the first state in the country to adopt a completely paperless judicial system.
“Today, reality is changing. The digital highway now connects citizens directly to various digital fora. We have moved away from the era of paper trails,” Kant expressed.
The move is being seen as a major step towards advancing the vision of Digital India, with technology-driven judicial education expected to simplify legal processes and prepare future legal professionals to work in a modern and inclusive justice system.
