Noida, June 22 (APAC Media): Tata Motors on Saturday said in an exchange filing that it has secured over 3,400 orders for electric commercial vehicles (eCVs) across freight, logistics and passenger transport segments, marking a significant expansion in the adoption of electric mobility in India’s commercial vehicle market.
The orders comprise around 2,000 small commercial vehicles (SCVs) and pick-ups, about 900 trucks, and nearly 500 buses, the company said.
These vehicles will be deployed across use cases including e-commerce logistics, FMCG and FMCD distribution, intra-city mobility, and heavy-duty applications such as cement, steel, mining, and construction-related transport, as well as intercity and intracity passenger services.
Tata Motors noted the order inflow reflects a broader shift in the commercial mobility sector from pilot projects to large-scale deployment of electric vehicles, driven by operational viability and growing fleet operator confidence.

The company said it has expanded its electric commercial vehicle portfolio over the past year, introducing models across segments. These include the Ace EV, Ace Pro EV and Intra EV in the small commercial vehicle category; the Ultra EV range for intermediate-duty applications; and the Prima EV 28T tipper and 55T tractor for heavy-duty freight. In the passenger segment, the Starbus EV and Ultra EV buses are being deployed for city and intercity operations.
Tata Motors said its existing electric fleet includes over 3,800 electric buses in operation across multiple cities, which have cumulatively covered more than 55 crore kilometres. It also noted that more than 17,000 electric small commercial vehicles are already on Indian roads.
The company expressed that it is supporting adoption through an ecosystem approach that includes partnerships with over 14 charge point operators, EV-focused financing arrangements with banks and NBFCs, fleet management systems, and uptime assurance programmes.
The development underscores accelerating momentum in India’s electric commercial mobility transition, with manufacturers and fleet operators increasingly scaling up deployment across logistics and public transport networks.
