Noida, July 27 (APAC Media): Crude Oil prices plunged more than 5% on Monday as easing tensions between the United States and Iran prompted investors to unwind the geopolitical risk premium that had propelled crude markets to multi-month highs last week.
Brent crude futures fell 4.73% to $87.31 a barrel, briefly dipping below the $90 threshold during the session, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures declined 5.30% to $84.56 a barrel by 11:24 IST, as traders reassessed the likelihood of prolonged supply disruptions following the weekend pause in military air strikes.
The sharp decline came after oil prices had surged in recent sessions as investors worried that an escalation in the conflict could disrupt supplies from one of the world’s most important energy-producing regions.
Six vessels attempted to navigate an “illegal and unsafe” route south of the Strait of Hormuz after switching off their navigation and positioning systems, Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported on Monday.
According to IRIB, one of the vessels was involved in an accident, while the remaining ships returned to the Gulf under what it described as “decisive Iranian management”.
Citing an informed official, the broadcaster said the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday after the vessels were “provoked” by the US military.
“The market is pricing in a lower probability of a major supply disruption,” analysts said, noting that the easing of geopolitical concerns removed some of the premium that had supported crude prices.
Traders had been closely monitoring developments around the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route through which a significant portion of global oil exports passes. Any disruption to traffic through the waterway could have triggered a major supply shock and pushed prices higher.
“Crude Oil markets are highly sensitive to geopolitical developments, and any cues of negotiations can quickly change investor sentiment,” market participants said.
The decline in crude prices reflected a broader shift in market expectations, with investors moving away from safe-haven positions and focusing again on supply-demand fundamentals.

Energy analysts, however, warned that uncertainty remains high.
“The situation is still fragile, and rates could rebound quickly if diplomatic efforts fail or tensions rise again,” one analyst said.
The drop in oil prices could provide some relief to consumers and economies struggling with inflation pressures linked to higher energy costs. Lower crude prices typically reduce fuel expenses and may ease costs for transportation, manufacturing and other energy-intensive industries.
Despite Monday’s sell-off, market participants said they would continue to watch political developments closely. A sustained diplomatic agreement between the United States and Iran could lead to further price declines, while renewed conflict could quickly reverse the trend.
“The next few days will be critical for determining whether this is a temporary pause or the beginning of a longer period of stability,” traders said.
Therefore, oil markets remain caught between hopes for diplomatic progress and concerns that unresolved tensions in the Middle East could continue to threaten global energy security.
UAE condemns Israeli settler attacks in occupied West Bank
The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned recent attacks by Israeli settlers targeting Palestinian villages in the occupied West Bank, according to Aljazeera reports.
In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced the latest incident, an arson attack on a mosque in Tulkarem, describing such actions as “provocative and inciting” acts of extremism directed against Muslims.
The ministry said the Israeli government bears full responsibility for the continued incidents and urged authorities to hold those responsible accountable.
It warned that failure to take action against the perpetrators would amount to implicit approval, further fueling hatred, racism and instability in the region.
