Noida, Aug 17 (APAC Media): Qatar Post has launched a new digital remittance service that allows customers to send money directly from Qatar to UPI-enabled bank accounts in India, offering the Indian community a faster and more convenient way to transfer funds home.
The new Qatar-India remittance service, powered by PosTransfer and integrated with India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI), became operational on August 15, coinciding with India’s Independence Day.
The service is the result of a collaboration between Qatar Post, India Post, the Universal Postal Union’s Interconnection Platform (UPU-IP), and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL). It brings together Qatar’s postal network and India’s widely used digital payments infrastructure to simplify cross-border money transfers.

Customers can initiate a remittance by visiting a Qatar Post outlet and providing the recipient’s UPI ID in India, along with the required identification details. The recipient must activate the facility for receiving foreign inward remittances through the UPI app being used.
Once the transfer is processed, the money is credited directly to the beneficiary’s UPI-enabled bank account.

Transactions can range from QAR 10 to QAR 4,000, subject to a maximum equivalent of ₹1 lakh per transaction.
Qatar Post will charge a flat QAR 15 service fee for each transaction.
The service is expected to be particularly useful for the large Indian community in Qatar, providing another trusted and accessible option for sending money to families and beneficiaries in India.
“This initiative brings together the reach of the postal network and the convenience of UPI, giving the Indian community in Qatar a simple and secure way to send money home,” officials associated with the initiative said.
The launch also highlighted the growing cooperation between India and Qatar in the field of digital financial services. H.E. Sandeep Kumar, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of India in Qatar, visited the Qatar Post outlet at LuLu Mall, Doha, on the occasion and interacted with officials and other stakeholders involved in the initiative.
The service is enabled by the integration of the Universal Postal Union’s Interconnection Platform with India’s UPI ecosystem. The partnership demonstrates how established postal networks can be combined with digital public infrastructure to make international remittances more accessible and efficient.
“The integration of UPU-IP with UPI opens up new possibilities for modernising international postal financial services and creating more seamless cross-border payment channels,” stakeholders said.
PosTransfer powered by UPI is designed to enable participating postal operators in other countries to offer remittance services to UPI-enabled bank accounts in India.
India Post is already working with postal operators in other countries to establish additional remittance corridors.
The Qatar-India launch therefore marks an important step in expanding India’s digital financial connectivity internationally while creating a more convenient remittance channel for Indians living and working abroad.
