Why Anthropic Is Keeping Claude AI Data Inside India

Summarize with:
New Delhi, August 4(APAC Media): Anthropic is bringing one of its biggest AI services closer to Indian businesses. The company has announced that its Claude AI models can now process requests within India through Amazon Bedrock, a move that could help more banks, government departments and large companies adopt generative AI.
The biggest change is that sensitive data no longer needs to leave India for AI processing. This addresses a major concern for sectors such as banking, insurance, telecom and government, where data privacy and compliance rules have slowed large-scale AI adoption. With local AI processing, organisations can use Claude while keeping customer and citizen data inside the country.
The announcement also reflects Anthropic’s growing focus on India, one of its fastest-growing markets. The company has expanded its Bengaluru operations and is working with more enterprises, technology partners and developers.
Several large Indian organisations have already started using Claude. NPCI is building its AiNxt enterprise AI platform on the model, while Axis Bank is using it to improve engineering productivity. IndusInd Bank has adopted Claude for its internal knowledge platform, and Godrej Industries is using it across software development and business operations.
India’s IT services companies are also increasing their investment in Anthropic’s AI models. TCS is rolling out Claude to 50,000 employees and expanding AI training programmes. Infosys has integrated the model into its Topaz platform, while Cognizant, LTIMindtree and L&T Technology Services are using it to build AI solutions for enterprise clients.
Anthropic is also expanding its ecosystem in India through partner programmes and AI certification. The company plans to certify 5,000 professionals and is supporting AI research and projects with organisations including the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Pratham, Digital Green and the Data Security Council of India.
