New Delhi, September 9 (APAC Media): The Ministry of Coal has launched the Comprehensive CSR Framework for Indian Coal Companies. It is the first sector-specific CSR framework introduced for coal companies since the CSR provisions under the Companies Act, 2013.
The framework was launched alongside major milestones under Coal India Limited’s (CIL) healthcare schemes, Thalassemia Bal Sewa Yojana (TBSY) and Nanha Sa Dil.
TBSY Completes Over 1,050 Bone Marrow Transplants
TBSY provides financial support for bone marrow transplants for children affected by thalassemia and aplastic anaemia. The scheme has expanded from four hospitals to 21 empanelled hospitals across India.
More than 1,050 bone marrow transplants have been completed under the initiative, with financial assistance of up to Rs10 lakh per patient. The programme has an overall outlay of Rs130 crore across four phases.
Nanha Sa Dil Crosses 1,500 Surgeries
CIL’s Nanha Sa Dil initiative focuses on children with congenital heart defects. Since its launch in March 2024, the programme has screened more than two lakh children and completed over 1,500 corrective cardiac surgeries.
Treatment, including travel and hospitalisation expenses, is provided free of cost to beneficiaries.
New Framework Focuses on Measurable Outcomes
Prepared by the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), the new CSR framework aims to make CSR initiatives more outcome-oriented and transparent.
It focuses on local community needs, better project planning, monitoring and measurable social outcomes, particularly in coal-mining regions.
Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy, Minister of State Satish Chandra Dubey and Coal Ministry Secretary Vikram Dev Dutt attended the launch in New Delhi.
