Vadodara, September 8 (APAC Media): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated, dedicated to the nation and laid foundation stones for development projects worth more than Rs 35,000 crore in Vadodara, Gujarat, with a focus on strengthening infrastructure, connectivity and economic growth.
2,800-km Dedicated Freight Corridor Completed
The Prime Minister highlighted the completion of the 2,800-km Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) connecting India’s Eastern and Western freight networks, calling it a major boost to the country’s logistics infrastructure.
The separation of freight and passenger traffic has enabled more than 430 cargo trains to operate daily, while comparable freight journeys have seen travel times fall from around 30 hours to 10–12 hours.
Faster movement is also helping reduce fuel consumption and logistics costs.
The DFC is expected to benefit farmers by enabling faster movement of flowers, fruits, vegetables and other perishables to major markets.
Rail Connectivity and Manufacturing Get Major Push
Modi highlighted a double-stack container train from JNPT to Vadodara, carrying cargo equivalent to more than 250 trucks, demonstrating the capacity of dedicated freight infrastructure.
He also highlighted new rail connectivity for underserved regions of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, including Chhota Udepur and Alirajpur.
India has manufactured 50,000 modern railway coaches and nearly 2.5 lakh wagons since 2014, strengthening its position as a major railway manufacturing hub.
