Noida, Sep 1 (APAC Media): Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions rose to a record 24.51 billion in August, up 3.6 per cent from July, while the value of transactions fell marginally by 0.2 per cent to ₹29.82 trillion, according to data released by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on Tuesday.
August marked the second consecutive month of record UPI transaction volumes. In July, UPI recorded 23.66 billion transactions worth ₹29.88 trillion.
The highest monthly transaction value so far was recorded in May at ₹29.9 trillion, across 23.2 billion transactions.

On a year-on-year basis, UPI transaction volume increased 22 per cent in August, while transaction value rose 20 per cent.
The average daily UPI transaction volume increased to 791 million in August from 763 million in July. Daily transaction value, however, declined slightly to ₹96,205 crore from ₹96,383 crore.
“The continued rise in UPI usage shows how deeply digital payments have become part of everyday life. As the platform averages nearly 800 million transactions a day, the next stage of growth will be about making payments more useful and connecting consumers with a broader range of financial services,” an industry expert said.

Meanwhile, Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) transactions declined by more than 1 per cent to 360 million in August from 364 million in July. Transaction value fell 1 per cent to ₹7.04 trillion.
Compared with August last year, IMPS transaction volume declined 25 per cent, while value increased 18 per cent. Daily IMPS transactions fell to 11.61 million in August from 11.75 million in July. Daily transaction value stood at ₹22,701 crore, down from ₹22,958 crore.
FASTag transactions increased 1.2 per cent to 351 million in August from 347 million in July. Transaction value rose to ₹7,185 crore from ₹7,143 crore.
Daily FASTag transactions increased to 11.32 million from 11.21 million, while daily transaction value rose to ₹232 crore from ₹230 crore.

Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS) transactions grew 4 per cent to 104 million in August from 100 million in July.
However, transaction value declined 5 per cent to ₹26,035 crore from ₹27,539 crore.
Both AePS transaction volume and value were down 19 per cent from August 2025.
