Noida, Oct 21 (APAC Media): Reliance Industries-backed Jio Platforms Ltd on Wednesday opened its ₹30,213-crore initial public offering (IPO), in what is set to be India’s largest-ever public issue, drawing investor attention to the telecom and digital services company’s market debut.
The IPO provides investors with an opportunity to participate in one of India’s leading telecommunications and digital services businesses. Jio has transformed the country’s telecom sector through affordable data services, widespread 4G and 5G connectivity, and an expanding digital ecosystem.
Jio Platforms IPO: Key details
The public issue opened on October 21 and will close on October 23, 2026. The price band has been fixed at ₹1,065–₹1,119 per share, valuing the company at approximately ₹10.3 lakh crore at the upper end.
The issue comprises 27 crore newly issued equity shares, with no offer-for-sale component. The proceeds are expected to be used primarily to repay borrowings at Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, the company’s operating subsidiary, and for general corporate purposes.
The minimum application is 12 shares, requiring an investment of ₹13,428 at the upper price band. Allotment is expected to be finalised on October 26, while the shares are scheduled to be listed on the BSE and NSE on October 28, subject to official confirmation.
The grey market premium indicates investor interest
The grey market premium (GMP) has become a significant topic of discussion prior to the listing. Reports have indicated an unofficial premium of around ₹245 per share, or approximately 22% above the upper issue price.
At the upper price band of ₹1,119, the premium would imply an indicative price of ₹1,364. However, GMP is not an official market indicator and can fluctuate considerably. It does not guarantee listing gains.
Investors should therefore assess the company’s fundamentals and valuation instead of relying solely on grey market trends.
Institutional investors show interest.
Jio Platforms reportedly raised around ₹8,109.84 crore from 212 anchor investors before the public issue. Several prominent global investment firms participated in the anchor allocation, signalling institutional interest in the offering.
However, anchor participation does not guarantee future returns. Actual demand will become clearer as subscription data from qualified institutional buyers, non-institutional investors and retail investors emerges.
Growth opportunities and broking views
Jio’s extensive subscriber base, 5G expansion, broadband services and potential opportunities in artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing are central to its growth outlook.
Analysts have highlighted the company’s market position, potential revenue growth and digital expansion opportunities. At the same time, valuation, competition, capital expenditure and the costs of developing new technology businesses remain important risks.
The IPO proceeds could also help strengthen financial flexibility by reducing borrowings at the operating subsidiary.
Should investors apply?
Jio Platforms’ IPO offers exposure to a major player in India’s digital economy, but the proposed valuation makes careful analysis essential. Investors should review the company’s financial performance, cash flows, debt, growth prospects and the final prospectus before making a decision.
The expected listing date is October 28, 2026, although the final timetable remains subject to official announcements.
