Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh Government ordered the closure of schools and colleges including technical institutions in the state till April 4 as a precautionary measure owing to the rising number of coronavirus cases in the state and across the country. The decision was taken in a high-level meeting presided by the Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur. High schools had opened earlier but now would have to be shut. Primary schools however have been closed for several months and would remain closed informed a high level source.
• The educational institutes in Himachal Pradesh have been closed till April 4.
• The schools with hostels and residential facilities have not been closed.
• Colleges with nursing and medical courses are also functioning.
The chief minister said schools having residential facilities need not close their hostels, however, they would have to comply with all the standard operating procedures to keep the residential areas cut off and appoint a ‘compliance officer’ to ensure all orders are followed.
Apart from Himachal Pradesh, many states have decided to close the schools and colleges in view of the rise in Covid-19 cases across the country. Haryana, Maharashtra, Telangana, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and Punjab are some of the states that have shut down their educational institutes.
