On Sunday, while addressing the nation in the 75th episode of the monthly radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’, the Prime Minister said India is working towards the promotion of a unique aspect of this zone called lighthouse tourism.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been speaking about developing tourism around lighthouses. Earlier this month during the Maritime India Summit too he mentioned about development of facilities near lighthouses.
He said that a total of 71 lighthouses have been identified to facilitate lighthouse tourism in India. “Museum, amphitheatre, cafeteria, children’s park, eco-friendly cottages and landscaping will be prepared in all these lighthouses as per their capacity.”
The Prime Minister also paid his tribute to lighthouse workers who lost their lives in the 2004 tsunami. “The tsunami hit India in 2004. During the tsunami, we lost 14 of our employees working in our lighthouse…I pay respectful tribute to these light-keepers of ours and I admire the work of lighthouse workers,” PM Modi said.
“I have talked about various aspects of tourism on multiple occasions during the Mann Ki Baat series, but lighthouses are unique when viewed from the perspective of tourists. Lighthouses have always been the centre of attraction because of their grand design.
While reminding the listeners about his speech, he thanked one “Guruprasadh Ji” from Chennai for taking interest in his request and sharing images of his visits to lighthouses in Tamil Nadu.
The PM also mentioned a “unique lighthouse” in the latest episode of his Mann Ki Baat. Modi talked about a lighthouse situated in Gujarat’s Jhinjhuvada town. He said the unique feature about the lighthouse is that it now stands tall about 100 km away from the coastline. “Some rocks in the village suggest the presence of a very busy port in the area centuries ago, meaning the coastline was up to Jhinjhuvada before,” Modi added.
