New Delhi: The Centre is set to focus on developing new tourist destinations across the country to reduce the heavy rush at existing hotspots, Union Minister for Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat said.
Shekhawat said that all state tourism ministers and senior officials will meet after the completion of this Parliamentary Session to present detailed plans and proposals to the central government. These presentations will include new ideas for unexplored destinations, infrastructure development, and strategies to promote them on both domestic and international platforms.
The move comes in response to the growing challenge of overcrowding at India’s established tourist hubs, which often struggle with infrastructure and resource pressure during peak seasons. By promoting alternative destinations, the government aims to ease the burden on popular sites such as Jaipur, Goa, Shimla and other popular tourist destinations in the country, while also allowing lesser-known regions to emerge as attractive travel options.
According to officials, the initiative is also expected to boost local economies, create employment and highlight India’s diverse cultural and natural heritage beyond the conventional circuits.
Union Minister Shekhawat stated that the upcoming meeting will lay the groundwork for a structured roadmap to expand India’s tourism map sustainably.
