Gujarat: NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has brought 265 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity into commercial operation in Gujarat, marking a significant addition to its solar and wind portfolio.
On August 20, NGEL commence commercial operation of 212.5 MW capacity from the 1,255 MW Khavda-I Solar PV Project in Gujarat. The project is being developed under the Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) Scheme Phase-II Tranche-III by NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of NGEL. Located in the resource-rich Kutch region, the Khavda project represents one of the country’s largest solar park developments and is central to NTPC’s strategy of expanding low-carbon generation.
In parallel, 52.8 MW of wind capacity was declared commercially operational on August 21. This addition is part of a 100 MW hybrid renewable project in Gujarat, comprising 92.4 MW of wind and 37.5 MW of solar. The project is being developed by Ayana Renewable Power Four Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Ayana Renewable Power Pvt Ltd. Ayana is fully owned by ONGC NTPC Green Energy Pvt Ltd, a joint venture between ONGC and NTPC Green Energy.
With these additions, NTPC Group’s installed, and commercial capacity has reached 83,242 MW. The expansion highlights the role of public sector enterprises in scaling India’s renewable energy infrastructure, particularly through hybrid models that combine wind and solar to improve efficiency and grid integration.
