New Delhi: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has decided that no fresh registrations in categories of Healthcare workers (HCWs) and (Frontline Workers) FLWs would be allowed and that registrations of persons aged 45 years and above would continue to be permitted on CoWin portal.
In a communiqué from the Ministry stated that the decision was taken after various inputs received from different sources in some areas of CVCs. Ineligible beneficiaries are being registered as HCWs and FLWs and are getting vaccinated in complete violation of the prescribed guidelines. It also added that there has been 24% increase in HCW database in the past few days. The issue was discussed with state representatives and domain knowledge experts in the NEGVAC meeting held on April 3, 2021.
Covid-19 vaccination drive is going on across the country since January 16, 2021 for different age groups of beneficiaries prioritized by NEGVAC. Vaccination for HCWs started on the same day and for FLWs from 2 February. Later persons aged 60 years and above and aged 45-59 years with identified comorbidities were covered from 1 March 2021. Subsequently, from April 1, 2021, all persons aged 45 years and above are eligible for vaccination.
