Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) will launch door-to-door cargo services on Ugadi day, on March 22. APSRTC will become the first state transport undertaking (STU) in the country to offer this service.
The APSRTC is making strides in growing its cargo business since 2015. The revenue from cargo operations grew from 6 crore to 160 crore per annum between 2015 and 2022. It launched door delivery of cargo parcels in 2021 and has now extended it to doorstep pick-up also.
The APSRTC collaborated with a startup ‘Shipmantra’ which provided all technical and logistical support for last mile connectivity. APSRTC vice-chairman and managing director (VC&MD) Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao said they observed a huge demand for doorstep pick-up after the launch of door delivery service. “We are launching this service in Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam in the first phase. The service will be extended later to other major cities like Tirupati, Rajahmundry, Kakinada, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru, he said.
Transport minister P Viswaroop said APSRTC is making all efforts to provide better services to the passengers.
