Udaipur: To reduce pollution in the lakes of Udaipur, the city administration on Thursday inaugurated an 18-seater electric boat, belonging to a private hotel, on Lake Pichola.
This is the first electric boat launched in Udaipur after a court order to do away with fossil fuel-operated boats in the city’s lakes.
Post the inauguration ceremony, guests took a round of Lake Pichola in the new boat and found it to be very comfortable, less noisy, and pollution-free as compared to petrol/diesel boats. Divisional Commissioner Rajendra Bhatt said that Udaipur’s tourism is dependent on its lakes, so their safety is the responsibility of all.
Bhatt said that to keep lakes safe, all institutions and every person associated with tourism will have to work with commitment. He described the operation of electric boats as a necessary step for the conservation of lakes and urged others to work in this direction as well.
District Collector Tarachand Meena said that the district administration constantly strives to keep Udaipur clean and beautiful, for which the cooperation of hotel managements is necessary. He said efforts will be made to electrify all the boats in the lakes of Udaipur.
The electric boat has two engines that are powered by two batteries. The top speed of the boat is 7 nautical miles per hour but despite the high speed it is quite stable and comfortable. It has also been beautifully decorated in Rajasthani style.
