The tanks chosen for redevelopment are Panjapur, Pirattiyur and Kallikudi. Officials said a study was completed to check for encroachments on the waterbodies. Drone cameras were also used in the study to assess the current condition of the tanks, which had been neglected for long.
As the surface of the tanks and bunds were covered by aquatic weeds, officials said the comprehensive project would include a component to clear the tank beds and desilt the waterbodies. The bunds will be strengthened to retain surplus rainwater from catchment areas.
Collector M Pradeep Kumar and senior officials from the revenue department and Trichy corporation inspected the tanks on Saturday.
