NASHIK: The state government has sanctioned Rs 48 crore for a drinking water supply scheme in Nandgaon town.
This is the second major water supply scheme sanctioned for Nandgaon taluka — first was in Manmad for which the state government has provided Rs 311 crore.
MLA Suhas Kande has been following up with the issue with the state government to provide quality drinking water to Nandgaon as the current water supply scheme is not functioning effectively.
The town, with a population of around 50,000, current supply system is proving insufficient for its residents.
“It was therefore required to arrange for a separate water supply scheme for Nandgaon. The state government, through a government resolution (GR) on March 21, has given administrative approval for this,” Nandgaon municipal council’s chief officer Vivek Dhande said.
The state government has provided the funds through the Maharashtra Suvarna Jayanti Nagarotthan Mahabhiyan. While the Manmad town will get water directly from Karanjwan dam, Nandgaon will get water from Girna Dam.
Dhande had presented the technical and other issues of the scheme to principal secretary of the urban development department during the state-level committee meeting.
The Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) had already given its technical sanction for the scheme. The project has been designed considering the population of 2041.
The main components of the water supply scheme include Rs 1.5 crore for a jackwell to be constructed in Girna Dam, Rs 20 crore for 28.5 km pipeline to draw water from the dam to the water treatment plant, Rs 1.6 crore for pumps, Rs 5.9 crore for distribution network, and Rs 1 crore for solar power plant.
