RANCHI: The city, which is part of the 100 smart cities project in the country, has joined hands with Italy’s Reggio Emilia city for knowledge sharing on sustainable urban development programme.
A three-member delegation headed by deputy mayor of Reggio Emilia, Carlotta Bonvicini, visited Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) on the second day of their three-day maiden tour to the capital. On Tuesday, the delegates had visited Ranchi smart city site to walk through various facilities such as command control centre, integrated infrastructure among others. The guests also took stock of the chartered bicycle project of the state urban development department and pedalled through different parts of the smart city site.
The team spent the second day at RMC interacting with the civic body officials as part of knowledge-sharing exercise of the works and initiatives undertaken in both the cities to adopt best practices.
An RMC official said, “We showed them presentations on our works and projects under way in the city to provide ease of life to residents. We also discussed designing safe bicycle routes in the capital to promote non-motorised transport to enhance public mobility. Italy has done a good job in this sector.”
Ranchi mayor Asha Lakra said the visit is part of the European Union International Urban and Regional Cooperation Programme for sustainable urban development. “The idea behind such visits is to learn the good works of that city and adopt it to improve Ranchi. We discussed mobility, improving civic infrastructure, facilitating online public and civic amenities among others. The visiting team also showed us presentations on their works in the city. It will be an ongoing exercise in future,” she said.
