New Delhi: The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) posted that it conducted a review meeting with states and Union Territories (UTs) at The Ashoka in New Delhi to assess the progress of renewable energy schemes and capacities. The meeting witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Bhagwant Khuba, Minister of State, MNRE, Bhupinder S Bhalla, Secretary of MNRE, Alok Kumar, Secretary of the Ministry of Power, Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson of CEA, and Pradeep Kumar Das, CMD of IREDA Ltd.
During his keynote address, MoS Bhagwant Khuba commended the achievements of MNRE in the realm of renewable energy. He also shared his views on India’s energy transition journey, emphasising the nation’s commitment to a sustainable and green future. Khuba expressed the urgency to expedite efforts in energy transition and emphasised the need for state governments to assume leadership roles in achieving the ambitious goal of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. He assured that the Ministry of Power and MNRE are working collaboratively to address any challenges that may arise in meeting the 2030 target.
In his introductory remarks, Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, Secretary, MNRE underscored the increasing electricity demand in India and the imperative for states to take proactive measures to achieve the target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based capacity by 2030. He emphasised the presence of several ongoing projects and stressed the importance of providing the necessary support to ensure their timely completion.
Addressing the gathering, Alok Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Power highlighted the global momentum towards accelerating energy transition, with India taking a leadership role in this endeavour. He outlined the steps taken by MNRE to support renewable energy capacity addition, including green hydrogen, offshore hydrogen, and battery storage.
The meeting also included a session moderated by Dinesh D Jagdale, Joint Secretary of MNRE, focusing on renewable purchase obligation (RPO) compliance, state-wise renewable energy plans, trajectory of renewable energy bids, and interventions and issues raised by various states and UTs.
The review meeting served as a crucial platform for discussions, exchange of ideas, and collaborative efforts to drive the renewable energy agenda forward. MNRE’s dedication to achieving India’s energy transition goals was evident, with the presence of key stakeholders and a shared commitment to resolving challenges and accelerating renewable energy capacity addition.
