New Delhi: It’s a first. That too in a sensitive territory. In the history of diplomatic relations between the 2 countries, for the first time, a woman diplomat has been appointed as the head of Indian Mission in Pakistan. Geetika Srivastava will be India’s new Charge D’Affaires at its High Commission in Islamabad. The 2005 Batch Indian Foreign Service Officer, IFS Geetika Srivastava is presently serving as Joint Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
Geetika Srivastava has served Indian High Commission in China from 2007 to 2009 and had postings at the Regional Passport Office in Kolkata and as Director of the Indian Ocean Region division in the external affairs ministry. She will succeed Dr M Suresh Kumar in Indian Mission, who is likely to return to New Delhi.
The Indian and Pakistani missions in Islamabad and New Delhi have not been headed by high commissioners since August 2019
