New Delhi: Colonel Sunita BS, an officer in the Army Medical Corps, made history by becoming the first woman to assume the position of Commanding Officer at the Armed Forces Transfusion Centre in Delhi Cantonment.
Previously, she served as the Commanding Officer at a Field Hospital in Arunachal Pradesh, focusing on delivering optimal Combat Medical Support.
A graduate of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences Rohtak, Colonel Sunita holds a Post Graduate degree (MD & DNB) in Pathology. In her new role, she is tasked with overseeing the operations of the Armed Forces Transfusion Centre (AFTC), the largest blood transfusion center in the Armed Forces.
AFTC boasts advanced facilities in Transfusion Medicine, including Stem Cell cryopreservation, fully automated immune-haematology analysers, gamma irradiation chambers, and Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT) capabilities.
Notably, AFTC is the sole licensed center in the country with a Frozen Red Cell facility.
Lt Gen Daljit Singh, Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), extended congratulations to Colonel Sunita BS on her historic appointment, expressing best wishes for her continued success in the future.
