Chennai: Ashok Leyland, the Indian flagship company of the Hinduja Group, announced that its subsidiary OHM Global Mobility has bagged an order for 500 ultra low-floor electric buses from the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC), Chennai. OHM is the electric mobility arm of Ashok Leyland that focuses on Mobility-as-a-Service business. The step has been taken by MTC to make public transportation in the city ‘green’.
Switch Mobility, another subsidiary of Ashok Leyland, will deliver advanced Switch EiV12 model buses to OHM, and OHM will then operate and maintain those buses over 12 years. As per the contract, 400 of these buses will be non-AC and 100 of them will be equipped with air conditioning.
The buses are designed to seat 37 passengers comfortably, with space for 24 standing passengers. With a range of over 200 kilometers per charge, the buses are seen to be ideal for Chennai’s long city routes, expected to provide uninterrupted service across the city’s vast urban landscape.
