Shimla: Union Health Minister J P Nadda announced Rs 178 crore in new infrastructure projects for AIIMS Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, during his visit to the hospital on Friday. The minister also inaugurated a renal transplant ICU, marking a significant step in expanding medical services in the region.
Nadda toured the newly operational transplant facility, which recently completed its first surgery. He met with the first patient to receive a kidney transplant at AIIMS Bilaspur and their donor, both of whom are reportedly recovering well.
In his statement, Nadda emphasized the importance of making advanced transplant services accessible to residents of Himachal Pradesh. The health ministry noted that the transplant unit addresses a longstanding gap in local healthcare by providing specialized care that previously required patients to travel outside the state.
The new projects are expected to enhance AIIMS Bilaspur’s capacity to offer comprehensive healthcare services. The health ministry’s announcement highlighted that the funds will support upgrades across the hospital’s infrastructure, aiding the facility’s ongoing development since its establishment.
