Amaravati: In a major administrative reshuffle, K. Vijayanand, a 1992-batch IAS officer, has been appointed as the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh. He will succeed Neerabh Kumar Prasad, a 1987-batch IAS officer, who retires on December 31, 2024, upon reaching the age of superannuation. Vijayanand, currently serving as the Special Chief Secretary in the Energy Department, will assume office on the same day. In the new role, Vijayanand will focus on inclusive growth in the state and developing backward regions and weaker sections of society.
Vijayanand is a seasoned administrator with vast experience in the energy sector. He played a key role in formulating and implementing Andhra Pradesh’s Integrated Clean Energy Policy, positioning the state as a global hub for clean energy. His leadership also facilitated the commissioning of significant energy projects and infrastructure development post-bifurcation.
Vijayanand’s career includes notable tenures as Managing Director of APGENCO and APTRANSCO and as Principal Secretary for IT & Electronics. His innovative approach in these roles has been widely recognized, particularly for attracting major IT and electronics firms to cities like Vizag, Vijayawada, and Tirupati through policies such as the Electronics Policy and Data Centre Policy. His administrative journey began in 1993 as Assistant Collector in Adilabad, progressing through roles like Sub Collector of Rampachodavaram and District Collector for Srikakulam and Nalgonda. He also served as State Project Director for Planning and Program Implementation.
Vijayanand’s appointment as Chief Secretary is seen as a recognition of his dedicated service and leadership, especially in the energy and IT sectors, which have significantly shaped Andhra Pradesh’s development trajectory.
