New Delhi: NMDC Limited, in collaboration with the Chhattisgarh government, has launched the NMDC Swarojgar Yojana, a self-employment scheme targeting tribal communities in Kondagaon, Chhattisgarh. With an initial allocation of ₹1 crore, the program aims to create sustainable livelihoods for residents by providing financial support and training.
Program Focuses on Livelihoods and Skills
In the first phase, ₹40 lakh has been distributed, benefiting 40 individuals. The initiative supports small business ventures such as dairy farming, tea stalls, and mobile repair shops, enabling beneficiaries to earn monthly incomes between ₹15,000 and ₹30,000.
One example is Babita Sarkar from Jugani Camp Village, who started a dairy business with the scheme’s funding and now earns ₹20,000–₹25,000 per month. Similarly, Lakshmi Nisad, a tea stall owner in Baderajpur, earns ₹800–₹1,200 daily, improving her household income.
Revolving Fund to Ensure Sustainability
The district administration manages the scheme through a revolving fund, ensuring resources are reinvested for new beneficiaries. The project aligns with broader efforts to strengthen economic self-reliance among underprivileged communities.
NMDC’s Broader CSR Efforts
This initiative is part of NMDC’s ongoing corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts, which include programs such as Balika Shiksha Yojana and Saksham. While these schemes address education and skill development, Swarojgar Yojana focuses on fostering economic independence in rural and tribal areas.
By focusing on skill-building and small enterprises, the NMDC Swarojgar Yojana underscores the role of public-sector initiatives in addressing unemployment and promoting inclusive development in marginalized regions.
