New Delhi: The Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has launched the MSME Trade Enablement and Marketing (TEAM) Initiative, a three-year program aimed at integrating five lakh micro and small enterprises into the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). The initiative, with a budget of Rs 277.35 crore, seeks to improve digital adoption among MSMEs, with a focus on enterprises led by women and marginalized communities.
Expanding Digital Access for MSMEs
The TEAM Initiative will provide MSMEs with access to digital storefronts, integrated payment systems, and logistics support, helping them expand their market reach. The government aims to reduce operational barriers and formalize digital transactions, making it easier for small businesses to build credibility.
Additionally, financial assistance will be offered to seller network participants to help them create and manage online listings. The government believes this will enable small businesses to tap into new customer bases while strengthening India’s push for digital transformation.
Focus on Training and Awareness
A significant part of the initiative involves workshops in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, targeting MSME clusters. Over 150 training sessions will be conducted, focusing on digital commerce adoption, setting up product catalogs, and leveraging the ONDC platform. A dedicated online portal has also been launched to facilitate workshop registrations and provide access to financing and grievance redressal.
Part of a Broader Digital Strategy
The TEAM Initiative aligns with India’s larger vision of enhancing MSME competitiveness in the digital economy. It will complement existing programs like PM Vishwakarma and the Digital MSME scheme, creating a more structured approach to MSME digitalization.
T. Koshy, CEO of ONDC, stated that the initiative aims to create a level playing field for small businesses, enabling them to scale and compete in the evolving digital marketplace.
