New Delhi: IAS Tarun Kumar Pithode (2009 batch), from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, has assumed charge as the new full-time Member Secretary of the Commission for Air Quality Management in the National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas (CAQM).
Before this appointment, Pithode served as Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC). His tenure as Member Secretary will last for five years, up to September 8, 2029, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
He succeeds Arvind Kumar Nautiyal, a 1992-batch officer of the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), who previously held the position.
The CAQM is a statutory body tasked with formulating and implementing policies to improve air quality in the National Capital Region and nearby areas. It coordinates efforts among different state governments and agencies to address air pollution and ensure effective management of air quality in the region, especially during critical pollution periods.
