New Delhi: Senior IPS officer Vitul Kumar, a 1993-batch officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been assigned the role of officiating Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The Ministry of Home Affairs announced this decision following the retirement of the Director General, Anish Dayal Singh, on December 31, 2024.
Kumar, currently serving as the Special Director General of the CRPF, will hold the top position in an officiating capacity. This arrangement will remain in effect until a regular appointment is made or until further orders, as per an official memorandum issued by the Ministry.
The memorandum stated: “The competent authority has approved the assignment of the officiating charge for the post of Director General, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to Vitul Kumar, IPS (UP:93), upon the superannuation of Anish Dayal Singh, IPS (MA:88), on December 31, 2024, until the selection of a regular appointee or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”
CRPF Leadership Transition
The CRPF, India’s largest paramilitary force, plays a key role in internal security operations, counter-insurgency, and anti-terrorism efforts. Kumar’s appointment comes at a crucial juncture, with the force preparing for its expanded responsibilities in upcoming national events and elections.
Background of Vitul Kumar
Kumar has been a part of the CRPF leadership as Special Director General, where he has overseen various strategic operations. While his tenure as Director General is temporary, it places him in a pivotal role to manage and guide the force until a permanent leader is named.
This transition underscores the importance of continuity in leadership within India’s security framework. The government is expected to announce a permanent appointee in the coming months.
