New Delhi: The Union Government has announced the promotion of Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Dr. Megha Bhargava to the position of Additional Commissioner of Income Tax. Prior to this, she served as the Joint Commissioner of Income Tax (Intelligence & Criminal Investigation) in the Ministry of Finance, where she played a key role in implementing the government’s E-Verification scheme.
Dr. Bhargava’s distinguished career as an IRS officer has been marked by several significant leadership roles. She has served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Dental Officer in the Ministry of Defence, leveraging her medical background to contribute to public service. As a qualified dental surgeon, she has worked to ensure access to Universal Health Coverage for marginalized communities.
Beyond her official duties, Dr. Bhargava is actively involved in social welfare initiatives. She is the Chief Advisor of Samarpann, an NGO operating in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Delhi. The organization has impacted over 26,000 children across 90+ schools through various grassroots programs, addressing critical issues like education and health.
Dr. Bhargava completed her graduation from the Government Dental College and Hospital in Mumbai. In 2021, she was awarded the prestigious Cambridge Commonwealth Shared Scholarship to pursue an MPhil in Public Policy at the University of Cambridge, further solidifying her expertise in governance and public service.
Her promotion underscores her exceptional contributions to both the government and society, reflecting a career dedicated to professional excellence and community impact.
