New Delhi: Genpact has joined forces with WWF-India and the Watershed Organization Trust (WOTR) to tackle climate challenges in India, focusing on river conservation and water security. The collaboration aims to restore the Chambal-Yamuna River system and support climate-resilient farming in Rajasthan.
Restoring the Chambal-Yamuna River System
With WWF-India, Genpact will work on ecological restoration of the Chambal-Yamuna River basin, which supports 77% of the global breeding gharial population and India’s national aquatic animal, the Ganga River dolphin. The initiative includes:
Improving water security for 50,000 farmers.
Enhancing river dolphin and gharial populations along an 80-km river stretch.
Conserving 5,000 sq. km of biodiversity-rich landscape.
Developing a multi-stakeholder framework for long-term conservation.
WWF-India will collaborate with local communities, the state governments of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, and the National Mission for Clean Ganga to improve understanding of the river’s hydrology, ecology, and governance.
Climate-Resilient Farming in Rajasthan
In Rajasthan’s drought-prone Karauli district, Genpact and WOTR will focus on improving water availability and agricultural resilience. The three-year project aims to:
Construct and restore water harvesting structures to store 128 million litres of water.
Introduce climate-resilient farming techniques to increase crop productivity by up to 30% for 1,600 farmers.
The initiative seeks to address water scarcity while promoting sustainable agricultural practices to support rural communities. By engaging in these projects, Genpact’s collaboration with WWF-India and WOTR aligns with broader efforts to address climate change and enhance environmental sustainability in India.
