Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh plans to develop an 800 MW solar park to balance seasonal energy demand with Uttar Pradesh. The project, divided into four 200 MW units, will alternate energy supply between the two states every six months based on their electricity consumption patterns.
Energy Swap to Address Seasonal Demand Variations
The initiative, jointly managed by MP Power Management Company and UP Power Corporation Limited, aims to optimize power distribution. Madhya Pradesh’s energy demand is lower in the first half of the financial year and rises in the latter half, while Uttar Pradesh follows the opposite trend. This complementary demand cycle allows both states to utilize the solar park efficiently.
Project Timeline and Investor Participation
During a pre-bid meeting at the Global Investors Summit in Bhopal, state officials briefed investors about the project’s bidding process. The final bid documents will be released on May 9, with a reverse auction scheduled for June 23. Power purchase agreements (PPAs) are expected to be signed by July 14.
Policy Focus on Renewable Energy Expansion
The solar park is part of Madhya Pradesh’s broader strategy to enhance renewable energy capacity and reduce dependence on conventional power sources. The state has been actively promoting solar energy to meet its long-term sustainability goals and align with national clean energy targets.
With inter-state energy sharing becoming a viable solution for balancing electricity loads, the project could set a precedent for similar collaborations across India’s power sector.
