Kolkata: The West Bengal government’s Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) has directed all government departments not to sign Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) without proper procedure.
The notification informing about this directive has been sent to all districts in West Bengal.
Any department or ministry planning an MoU must now send the details to the CMO. These details shall include the names of the parties involved, the subject or gist of the MoU, its possible outcomes, and the financial implications.
Even the self-administered government organisations have to follow this norm.
All the DMs have been instructed that many departments or government organisations have signed similar MoUs with many companies in thr past. Many of these have not worked out.
In many cases, this was done without approval from the CMO. All these would not happen henceforth
No MoU can be signed by any department until the CMO or the Chief Secretary gives approval.
The recent incident where the Transport Department signed a few MoUs without the CMO’s knowledge has sparked this move.
