Burdwan: The Burdwan Medical College & Hospital has been ranked No 1 in West Bengal in providing telemedicine services.
The state government is showcasing its achievements to highlight the success of telemedicine.
These telemedicine services first started at the hospital during COVID and later from May 2022 onwards.
This was part of West Bengal’s Swasthya Ingit project that started in 18 medical college hospitals, including Burdwan Medical College Hospital.
It started from the third floor of the new building. This service is now called Swasthya Ingit 2.0.
Daily consultations are provided from 10 am to 5 pm by doctors from Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Mental Health, Dermatology and Orthopaedic departments.
Doctors work in telemedicine in two separate shifts. This service is closed on Sundays.
The community health officer in thr block is involved in this telemedicine project. They send the case histories of patients who come to the rural PHCs.
Subsequently, the consultations are done with them audiovisually. If needed, patients are asked to visit the hospital.
Daily, nearly 1000 patients are consulted via telemedicine. In the first month itself, Burdwan was ranked first in telemedicine. It has maintained its position to date.
