Jaipur: In a move to strengthen its power distribution network, the Rajasthan government has approved the recruitment of 1,947 new technicians across state-run electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs). The decision aims to fill long-pending staffing gaps that have been affecting power supply and service delivery in several districts.
The recruitment, cleared by the state’s Energy Department and approved by the Finance Department, comes after ground-level reviews revealed a consistent shortage of technical staff in power utilities. Minister of State for Energy (Independent Charge) Heeralal Nagar said the decision was influenced by feedback from recent district-level assessments of electricity supply, where inadequate manpower was flagged as a major challenge.
Currently, Rajasthan’s DISCOMs – Jaipur, Ajmer, and Jodhpur face operational strain due to limited technical personnel, which has impacted maintenance and timely service. The new hires are intended to ease this burden and support ongoing efforts to improve electricity distribution across the state.
The 1,947 Technician Grade-III posts will be filled through direct recruitment. Jaipur DISCOM will receive 537 new positions, Ajmer DISCOM 498, and Jodhpur DISCOM the largest share with 912 posts. According to officials, this allocation reflects the specific operational needs of each distribution company.
The Energy Department drafted the proposal after internal consultations, which was later given financial clearance by the Deputy Chief Minister, who also holds the Finance portfolio. Power sector unions and employees had reportedly been calling for workforce expansion for several years, citing rising operational demands and increased consumer load.
