New Delhi: The Union Finance Ministry is expected to reinstate over Rs 400 crore that was cut from the 2025–26 budgetary allocation for the Union Territory of Ladakh.
According to reports, the decision follows discussions held by Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta and senior officials with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi and the funds are likely to be released soon.
The restoration will enable the administration to acquire land for ongoing development projects and clear pending liabilities that have slowed execution.
In addition, the Centre has approved Rs 148.64 crore to enhance allocations for the Autonomous Hill Development Councils of Leh and Kargil.
Despite reduced overall grants in the 2025-26 budget compared to the previous year, the Centre has reiterated its commitment to fully fund key infrastructure works in Ladakh.
Strategic roads, tunnels and connectivity projects are being prioritised to support both defence requirements and civilian movement, even amid the region’s limited working season due to harsh winters.
