Tamil Nadu: Schneider Electric will invest Rs 718 crore to expand its manufacturing operations in Tamil Nadu.
The global automation and energy management company on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government, outlining plans to scale up its manufacturing footprint across three industrial hubs in the state. The investment is expected to generate around 663 direct jobs and strengthen the state’s position as a manufacturing base for electrical equipment and industrial solutions.
According to the agreement, the investment will be directed towards expanding Schneider Electric India Private Limited’s existing smart manufacturing facilities in Chennai and Coimbatore. In addition, Schneider Electric IT Business India Private Limited will set up a new manufacturing unit in Hosur, focused on producing batteries and cooling solutions. These products are primarily used in data centres and industrial infrastructure, sectors that have seen rising demand in recent years.
The company has been operating in Tamil Nadu for close to 30 years, with multiple production and engineering facilities already located in the state. Officials familiar with the development said the latest expansion is aimed at improving local sourcing, strengthening supply chain resilience, and increasing export-oriented manufacturing from India.
The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister M K Stalin, Industries Minister T R B Rajaa, Chief Secretary N Muruganandam, Industries Secretary V Arun Roy, and TIDCO Managing Director and CEO Darez Ahamed. State government officials said the investment aligns with Tamil Nadu’s broader industrial policy goals of attracting capital-intensive manufacturing while creating skilled employment opportunities.
