New Delhi, September 1 (APAC Media): The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to integrate weather and climate data into DiCRA (Data in Climate Resilient Agriculture).
The partnership aims to provide timely and useful weather information to farmers, financial institutions, policymakers and researchers. It will support better decisions related to agriculture, rural finance and climate risks.
Weather Data to Be Integrated into DiCRA
Under the MoU, IMD will provide district- and block-level weather forecasts, agrometeorological advisories, weather alerts, seasonal risk information and weather observations through DiCRA.
The information will be available through a dedicated Weather Portal and will complement existing data on soil moisture, crop conditions, vegetation health and climate vulnerability.
NABARD will use DiCRA’s digital infrastructure and open APIs to provide the information through its web portal, mobile interface and other digital platforms.
Focus on Farmers and Rural Finance
The initiative is expected to help farmers make better decisions based on weather and climate conditions. Financial institutions and credit officers can also use the data to assess agricultural risks and make more informed lending decisions.
The MoU was signed by Sanjeev D. Rohilla, Chief General Manager, NABARD, and Bikram Singh, Scientist-G and Head, RMC Mumbai, IMD.
The signing was witnessed by NABARD Chairman Dr Shaji Krishnan V. and IMD Director General of Meteorology Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra.
The collaboration aims to improve access to climate information and support more resilient agriculture and rural livelihoods.
