New Delhi, September 1 (APAC Media): Ashish Chatterjee, a 1999-batch IAS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, has assumed charge as Principal Secretary and Managing Director of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL).
Chatterjee brings over 25 years of administrative experience across urban development, governance, finance, energy and steel.
He has served as District Collector of Viluppuram, Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur and also held key positions with the Corporation of Chennai in urban development and city governance.
At the Centre, he served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, where he was involved in policy formulation and sectoral oversight.
He also served as a government nominee director on the boards of GAIL (India), Indian Oil Corporation and Engineers India.
In April 2025, Chatterjee was appointed Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser in the Ministry of Steel, overseeing financial administration and fiscal matters related to the sector.
An IIT alumnus with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chatterjee now takes charge of CMRL with experience spanning administration, urban infrastructure and financial management.
